Battle at the Ardencaple against Waysiders-Drumpellier

Last weekend, Lomond-Helensburgh (L&H) enjoyed a fantastic day of rugby as both their 1XV and 2XV teams secured home victories. In the first game, the 1XV triumphed over Waysiders Dumpellier 1XV, and in the second, the 2XV emerged victorious against Clydebank 2XV. The club's fans were treated to a day of thrilling rugby action, leaving them eager for more success in the upcoming matches.

Lomond-Helensburgh 1XV Vs Waysiders-Drunpellier 1XV

In a rugby clash between Lomond-Helensburgh (L&H) 1XV and Waysiders-Drumpellier 1XV, the game kicked off with a strong start by Waysiders, with both teams battling in L&H's half. A penalty to Waysiders led to a line-out at L&H's 22, but a failed pass by Waysiders resulted in a chase down by Tommy Mackay. However, no advantage was gained, and a scrum was awarded to Helensburgh on their 22.

The ball was cleared to the opposition half but brought back by Waysiders. Jack Chapman's run took the ball back into the opposition half.
A strong steal by Ben Jones from a maul on their 10m led to a run down the left wing to their 5m, but a forward pass resulted in a scrum down for Waysiders on their 5m.

At the 10th minute, there was a scrum for Waysiders, but it was stolen by Craig Calderwood as Waysiders passed out. However, another knock-on by L&H led to a scrum for Waysiders on their 5m. The ball was cleared to their 10m by Waysiders but was not straight in the lineout, leading to a scrum for Waysiders.

In the 13th minute, the ball went out to the wing and was cleared by Waysiders and then collected by Alex Macauley on to Fraser Welsh for a try. The score was 5-0 at this point.

Waysiders restarted, and a strong push by L&H resulted in a penalty for holding on, giving a penalty to Waysiders, which was cleared only to their 10m line from their 22.

At the 20th minute, a line-out was won by L&H, and a strong run by Tommy Mackay ensued. The ball was passed to the right wing but an unfortunate knock-on, resulting in a scrum for Waysiders on their 22. However, a penalty was awarded at the scrum for early engagement, allowing Waysiders to clear the ball to the L&H's 10m.

In the 23rd minute, a great run from the line-out wide by Waysiders led to a knock-on on L&H's 22, resulting in a scrum for L&H. The ball was passed out from the scrum to a strong run by Craig Newport, passed to Craig Bowman for a kick to just inside Waysiders' half. A resulting line-out maul was pushed into touch by L&H.

Waysiders retained the ball from the line-out but a penalty was awarded for offside to L&H. It was cleared to just inside L&H's 10m line but collected by Burgh. An overhead kick by L&H to Waysiders' 10m was collected by Alex Macauley. A penalty was awarded to L&H for diving in, and it was kicked to their 5m, but it was overthrown by Scott Smith back into the hands of Waysiders.

The visitors attempted a clearance kick, but a knock-on on their 5m resulted in a scrum to L&H. The ball was passed outside by Bowman, and a strong run by Ben Jones resulted in a penalty on the line to Waysiders, which was cleared to their 22 for a Waysiders lineout. The line-out was won by L&H, and Tommy Mackay had a strong run for a try, Warren Smith for the conversion making the score 12-0.

At the 34th minute, Waysiders restarted, but a knock-on from L&H after passing along the line led to a scrum for Waysiders just outside L&H's 22. There was another penalty for Waysiders for going in from the side, resulting in a knock-on and a scrum for L&H on the 22, with a clearance kick from Warren Smith.

In the 38th minute, there was a scrum in L&H's half, passed out for a strong run by Bowman, passed to Stark but stopped in Waysiders' 22 by their strong defense, leading to half-time.

The game resumed with L&H restarting and launching a strong attack, taking the ball back and attacking into the 22. Waysiders' strong defense forced L&H out for a line-out on the 22. In the 47th minute, an attempted clearance kick by Waysiders was caught by Alex and back into a L&H attack. But a knock-on in front of the posts resulted in a scrum for Waysiders just outside their 5m. It was cleared to the halfway, but unfortunately, another forward pass by Ben Jones on the catch led to a scrum for Waysiders on the halfway.

At the 55th minute, there was a strong attack, with L&H keeping the game in Waysiders' half. However, L&H's tendency not to go low in tackles led to a penalty for Waysiders, but they knocked on, resulting in a scrum for L&H in their home 22.

At the 60th minute, L&H continued to fight to get out of their half, and a strong ruck by L&H won the ball and was cleared by Warren Smith. The ball was kicked back and forth by both teams but resulted in a kick and run by Waysiders, resulting in a try for them, making the score 12-5 in favor of L&H.

In the 63rd minute, L&H restarted, and a strong defense by L&H kept Waysiders in their own half. The ball was kicked out by L&H and then back in by Warren Smith to clear to the opposition 22. A strong line-out was stolen by L&H, leading to a driving maul to Peter McCready for a try, extending L&H's lead to 17-5.

In the 67th minute, Waysiders restarted the game, but they failed to go 10 meters, resulting in a scrum for L&H for the restart. L&H started to advance up the pitch, and a penalty was awarded to L&H on their 22 for Waysiders going in from the side. It was kicked over the posts by Warren Smith making the score 20-5.

In the 74th minute, there was a great take by Charlie Mackenzie at the line-out, but it was turned over by Waysiders for a run down the line and knocked forward into touch, leading to a line-out for L&H on the halfway. The ball was passed out, but a high tackle by Waysiders resulted in a penalty for L&H, which was cleared to their 22.

In the 77th minute, there was a failed scrum by L&H, and a penalty was awarded to Waysiders for a tap and go in their 22. Waysiders continued to push, but a penalty was awarded to L&H, which was kicked away by Waysiders, and the referee marched 10 meters forward due to it. L&H opted for a scrum in their 5. It was passed out to Joel Miller on the wing but into touch just before the try line. The lineout was to Waysiders but turned over to L&H has they continued their fight for a bonus point win. But to no avail with the score ended in a win to Lomond-Helensburgh of 20-5.

Next weekend (Saturday 21st October) sees the 1XV at home vs league leaders Cambuslang and the 2XV away to Addrossan Accies, both 3pm KO.
