The first Helensburgh rugby president was Copey Murdoch, appointed in 1969 with regular fixtures now being played at Ardencaple. This preceded the formation of Helensburgh Cricket and Rugby Football Club in 1972 after which both rugby and cricket clubs elected vice-presidents to run section committees, under a HCRFC President and main committee. Rugby had been established in the town, however, since 1963 albeit initially playing Shawlands’ 3rd XV fixtures. See Club History.
